can anyone tell me which type of blueberry would be high yielding,easy to care for .where would be the best place to get them please?Have meant to look before.I know the seed catalogues have them,but i'd just like to pop out and get them.

I have 3 varieties, herbert, tophat and can't remember the third,last year was my first crop off them unfortunatly the chickens ate the lot before they even ripened!!Imagination is everything, it is a preview of what is to become.Comment

i've got some from lidls and a couple more from wilkies for £2.00, there will be a new lot in aldi from the 5th feb, (about £2.50 for 3 plants) but they come in packs of 3 different fruits. I have found "Patriot" to be a good yielder, but the main thing for good production is good soil. Blueberies will produce on their own, but give better crops if cross-pollinated.Comment

Jilly, I think we've discussed this several times before, may be worth doing a search through the archives.
But, the important thing is these are plants that originate in ericacious pine forests and they haven't forgotten that. For a good crop, go for the base and roots in ericacious soil. If you can get it pine needles that drop from the trees- I've got some in the garden so a ready supply - use those for a mulch. This spring I'll dig last years lot in and replace with the winter's needles plus those from the branches I'll prune this year.
Have 6 bushes, can't remember the varieties, but they crop heavily growing them this way.

You will need to cover any fruit with netting as the blackbirds love blueberries as well. I have about 5 varieties and don't find a lot of difference in the yields between the varieties.
