  • Bare rooted fruit trees and bushes

    Hi there.
I am looking to get myself some more fruit trees and bushes and because they are cheaper I will go for bare rooted ones. Where you you get your bare rooted plants from ? I would love some recommendations before parting with my hard earned cash.

    Thanks

I buy mine from Lidl or Aldi. Used to get them from Woolworth but that is kinda tricky now

Agree with Shirl re Lidl and Aldi, also Wilkinsons and sometimes the Poundshop. Probably won't be in stock till end of August/September, which is the best time to plant. Good luck.

The specialist suppliers will tell you the exact rootstock. That isn't usually stated when you buy them from the Supermarkets, although they do give the final height of the tree - at least that's been my experience.
If you are on a budget the supermarket trees are an option. I bought one at a the princely sum of 99 pence (reduced) and 2 months after planting it's finally showing some signs of life!

Sadly over here in Guernsey we don't have Lidl or Aldi. We only have a local supermarkets, co-op and very small branches of M&S. What about on-line suppliers ? I have bought from Blackmoor but out of one quince, three gooseberries, two redcurrants and a plum tree only the redcurrants have survived. Locally I looked recently to replace my plum tree and they wanted £45 !!!

Try spalding plant and bulb, I bought four gooseberry bushes and a couple of fruit trees
off them last year, The gooseberries fruited this year and the trees are looking great.

              Hi

I bought an apple tree, £5, (sunset) from Morrisons.

I will be wanting some more soon as my lottie is now bigger. I just want a lottie that does not need too much work.

Ebay! I have a organic raspberry bush that is cropping now after 2 years and the rasps are huge and it only cost 2.99 plus postage. Also got an apple, pear and plum tree from gardenbargains online which were planted last October and doing very well.
