    Hi Everyone,

Happy new year to you all. Last year I planted a few apple trees at my dad's house. After having read a few books on apples iv decided i'd really like to try grafting them. I bought some rootstalks last night from Walcott and when i pruned the trees we planted last year i did get a little scion wood from 2 of our little trees. However, when i graft some of the rootstalks it would be good to try some other varieties. I am just wondering if anyone knows where i might get some scion wood or perhaps if anyone is out there pruning, they may be able to spare some and send me it? Apologies if that comes across as cheeky, I really don't mean it to.

Thank you all and happy new year again,

    Jamie

There are a number of us who don't mind sending out scions but your post count is too low according to the board rules.

Walcotts used to sell scions if you asked nicely, gb-online are cheaper have a wider range but you only get 1 pencil, or hang around and talk to us about your trees and get your post count up. If you browse back a few pages I did a list of what I had on offer.

      Hi Jamie/finglas.
As Lardman says, the Forum Rules require you to have made 50 posts before asking for seeds or plants (and that would include scions). Have a read of https://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gr...nce_76437.html
Become a more active member and you'll soon meet the criteria. There's plenty of advice on grafting on the forum to help you, however.

Thank you both for getting back to me. That is a shame about the post count but i understand. I will need to make more of a contribution. I did buy the rootstalks from walcott so before they send them i might enquire about scion there.

Thank you both, i appreciate you taking the time.

Hello. I tried grafting a few years ago and sourced my scions by chatting to the owner of a nearby orchard. Might be worth a try. Community orchards are also a good bet. Good luck!

Slightly immaterial of rules and number of posts etc but you could be 3 doors down from me and I wouldn't know. You have supplied no location for where you are. I assume the UK but no guarantee. There are few from France and Spain as I recall.

I selected some more unusual apples some years ago and have lost about half, but as at the start where are you ???

That way if there is a member close to you you might arrange something sort of unoffical.

Happens on other forums: Astronomy ones it is common for someone to ask for a suitable observing site, but no clue where they are. The RSPB reserve South of me is good, just useless if the person in in the US or Aus.

Privacy is one thing but Cambridge for me is enough and no way would anyone really find me.

Basically for questions like this a location is more then a little relevant.

Hi Kirk, thanks yes I should have mentioned where I am in the original post. Or perhaps I should change my settings to let people know. I guess it adds value to posts in general, giving them some background of the type of weather im growing in etc.

I am just south of Glasgow in South Lanarkshire.

              Thank you for you advice

              Jamie
