  • Amazing Greengage Crop

I inherited 3 greengage trees at the allotment. One is quite small and is yielding a super crop of good size fruit - ping pong ball size (ish). The other two trees are laden with smaller size fruit - big marbles. Except some of the branches on one of the trees have ping pong ball size fruit. The trees have lots of separate 'trunks' rather than distinct branches.

Question - how can I encourage all the 'branches' to produce the bigger fruit?
I waited for the June drop of fruit and it never came. The branches are so heavily laden that I have had to prop some of them up.

I have never tasted greengages before. They are lovely and make the most amazing jam. I am going to have a go at 'bottling' the bigger fruit, probably with some brandy. Good Xmas pressies.
