Does anyone know whether it is safe to shred bamboo (leaves etc above ground) and compost it or will I end up with lots of baby Bamboo?

I don't think shredded bamboo would grow. I cut my bamboo for bean sticks and they haven't rooted. -
AFAIK bamboos spread by their rhizomes rather than vegatitave material. If in doubt shred it then pack it into black bin gags tied up for a couple of months in the sun to cook down a bit but as long as you haven't got the rhizomes this shouldn't be necessary.
This does remind me that I've got a couple of bamboo plants to go into the new plot somewhere.

Yeh...I was thinking it'd blunt your shredder.
Also the actual bamboo can be like glass shards when dry.

We are lucky enough to be able to cut 4m bamboo for use - the leaves just go in the compost as is, and I'm still using the canes themselves so don't know about shredding them. Could you put the unwanted hollow bits somewhere for bugs and beasties?
