  • Mushroom Compost

Our neighbour has kindly given us some mushroom compost. I was going to mix it in with some multi-purpose and use it in pots as I understand I shouldn't use it on its own. Is this right?

    Any help much appreciated.

An agricultural college near me said they put a thick mulch of mushroom compost on the flower beds. They said very little nourishment, but excellent for the soil.

It's more a soil conditioner than compost for growing things in. It has already been used to grow mushrooms so may be deficient in nutrients.

I thought it had lots of lime in it so had to be used with care.

I'd use it to improve clay soils or as a mulch - not as a seed or module type compost....
