  • How hot is your heap?

Lifted the cover on one of the compost heaps and was greeted by steam. Out of interest I shoved in the soil thermometer and it read 65C!

I am physically unable to be good and regularly turn over the heap so I "cold" compost and have to be patient and tolerant of weeds inevitably popping up. I can only dream of steaming compost heaps. lol

This wasn't the turned heap, that only made it to 30C. This was the heap in progress with a good mix of greens and browns and a lot put on in one go and then covered with plastic and an old mat to get it started.

Typical. I'm doing something wrong then. I fill a big wooden slat bin as well. Oh well, I get there in the end.
