Hey guys I have a question about rocks and sand!!! I want to obtain a few bags or very large buckets of sand and some nice potting grit for my garden but I refuse to pay a small fortune for the stuff in a shop Short of travelling 1 hour to the sea side to pick it up which im not sure if thats legal where and how do I obtain these little beautys????

P.S Thanks for any advice guys

Removing material from a beach is illegal but,you could seek permission to take a finite amount of material from a beach at a point above the low water line from the council that controls the particular beach.

    Try freecycle or similar ?

Beach sand is salty so may not be suitable for you anyway. Any local building work going on where you could cadge some? Or ask on Freecycle as BB suggests ^^^^

Can you imagine the devastation to our coastline if everybody nicked their sand and pebbles from the beaches?
For one, Gt Yarmouth would be flooded with no beach to defend it ... actually that's not a bad idea, Shaun, come on over

Seriously though, why do you need sand and grit? They aren't essential ~ I don't use them

My soil is really clay like and gets water logged rather easy. Most of my patches are awesome now after 2 years of manuring the hell out of it! But i want to be able to grow prize winning carrots and mainly for all my container plants as I do not own were I live and dont want to put all my plants in the ground=[
