  • Cooked meats etc in compost caddys - council compost?

How come that meat etc can go in the bins provided by the council for composting, yet it can't be composted at home?

Do they compress/heat up their mixture or something?

    Thanks

Don't know much about this but my one assumption is doing it at home/allotment/etc would attract more vermin?

Perhaps the council have more secure measures or perhaps it just goes in any old hole once the council get it?

From what I remember due to the vast mount of material they get in council heaps really do get to quite a temp, high enough to kill vermin, due to their large size. They also have a fast turnover as the stuff is converted at a fast speed. A garden heap can't get to the temp they get to and so composting is slow and vermin can be attracted.

The council don't simply compost the household waste which they pick up they put it through an anaerobic digestion process which means that oxygen isn't present etc. This is quite different to the way in which your garden refuse rots down in a compost heap and perfectly safe

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
