  • Chipped shrubs in the compost bin?

Hi all, I have a lot of large shrubs and bushes in my garden (just bought the house 2 months ago) and I have a lot of pruning to do to get them back into shape as they have not been looked after. There are some bushes I just don't like either and they are blocking a lot of light.
If I shred/chip everything I prune off, can I put the clippings in my compost bin? I have a spare bin, if I should be separating it.
Or will it work well as a mulch?
I have a crazy amount of work to do in the garden so I won't be mulching any time soon, will it keep?

It makes lovely compost itf you leave it long enough. On our site when the council prune the hedges in late spring - the prunings get shredded and put into the empty compost bin and left to rot. Then by the next year in the autumn it's good stuff for digging in

I use mine as mulch it takes a long time to break down in the compost. It will keep just leave it in a heap to dry.

I've successfully composted shrub prunings, mix them with soft green stuff like grass clippings and they'll get going. How exciting, a new garden!

but mulching is no work at all: you just empty the chipper onto the ground around the plants (I'd be using it around established perennials, not your veg)
