  • Adding grass to compost bin when garden covered in dandelions

    Hi

DH is due to cut out our overgrown grass over the weekend but it is covered in dandelions which have 'gone to seed'! Can I add the grass to the compost heap? Or take it to the tip?

    Thanks

Those seeds are highly likely to survive the compost heap. You'll be saving yourself 7 year's weeding if you don't add them to the heap

I would try and pick as many off as possible before mowing, they will re seed in the lawn. Don't compost.

TBH, I would put them in the Council green bin.

If they've already gone to seed they'll be blowing around your garden by the weekend anyway. Cut them now, and any yellow ones you can see too.

Just compost them. Life is too short to worry about a few million dandelions.. and besides bees love them..

(The field next door is covered in dandelions and daisies.. Bees go wild with the pollen and nectar)

Ok, I am definitely not putting them on my compost heap, which hasn't even started yet.

Between my overgrown weedy allotment and weedy need garden, I don't think I will be getting much composting done this year.

              Thanks

I put all grass mowings straight onto my spud patch. It soon disappears and I make loads of dandelion wine!
