  • Another question for Alys

Sorry, I have a second question!

Is there an easy way to determine when a clematis should be pruned? (in this instance I lost the label to my potted clematis when moving house, and can't remember which it is!)

    Thank you (again!),
    Anna

    Oh, this old chestnut!
Group one (tends to have dainty flowers) flowers in winter and early spring. You prune these after they have bloomed, removing anything dead, damaged or dying.

Group two flowers in May/June. It has large flowers and you prune these in late winter/early spring removing the three D’s and keeping it in control.

Group 3 flowers late summer. These are very easy to care for as they are herbaceous. You just prune them straight back to the ground in late winter. Don’t loose the label!
