    Default My beds.....

    Attachment 59213

These three are just outside the kitchen window. They are made of sleepers and measure 2m x 1m. They have onions (red and white), radishes, rocket, mixed salad leaves, carrots, garlic, beetroot and spuds. This photo was taken in early June.

These ones will be the main ones. They're made from scaffold boards and measure 2.4m x 1.2m (8ft x 4ft). The hoops are made from black MDPE water pipe (25mm) and are held in place by small sections of 32mm waste pipe attached to the inside of the beds with brackets so the hoops are removable. They contain the same as the smaller ones but also have rat's tail radishes and peas. They also have strawberry plants which will be moved elsewhere when they're dormant. This photo was taken the other day (1st week of September). In case you're wondering, the area to the right of the beds (bare earth) will have wildflower meadow seeds sown in it very soon.

These are made from packing cases from a local factory. The wood isn't great and after 6 years has started to rot. I will have to figure out how I'm going to replace them next year though it's taken me until now to finally get all 30 beds in place!

I've been walking round the vine with my eyes shut! I missed this thread. There are some stunning ideas in everyone's photos, that I will be stealing very soon .

This is what my raised beds looked like when we moved in.

As you can see, they were already in place but in need of some TLC! They are all the same length 24ft, but the thing I find a little annoying is they are not all the same width. Ranging from 3ft -4ft and everything in between. If it had been up to me I would of used heavier duty wood so they didn't bow out of shape.

After a bit of TLC, they looked like this. They still bow out of shape in places as not all the wood was replaced. But it's better.

This is my herb bed, the only raised bed I've made from scratch. 8ft by 2ft. I'm quite pleased with it.

    Check out the rasied beds!!!
We spend yesterday morning bagging up 13 bags of well rotted horse for a local farm for free!
The boys have been busy laying some flags around the greenhouse.
I can't wait for next year.

Like 'em With the risk of starting a bit of a debate; I reckon raised beds are the way to grow your veggies. Could be something to do with my OCD and liking everything neat and tidy, lined up and in order, though (with lots of straightness and levelness thrown in. And right angles. Gotta have right angles . See my beds above)...
