  • Apple butter!

    My next door neighbour said I had to spread the word about my patented recipe for apple butter - so here goes. I have to say its well worth the 15mins preparation time!

    2lb cooking apples
    Half teaspoon grated nutmeg
    1 lemon
    1 pint water
    1 1/2lb sugar

    Simmer everyhting (except the sugar!) until its reeduced to a pulp (about an hour).

    Press through a sieve then add to a pan with the sugar. This is the trick - stir on a low heat until sugar is disolved, then boil hard (stir often) for about 30 mins.

    Transfer to pots and enjoy! It keeps for about 3 months but it's usually all gone sooner! Its delicious, trust me!

    Oooh it sounds it! Can't wait to give this a try. Haven't got an apple tree unfortunately, but I might have to pay Mum a visit and see if hers are ready for me to pinch yet...!

      I have never heard of apple butter before.

      Can someone please tell me how it is usually served because it sounds quite goodto me.

          I fancied this recipe too but what do you use it for. Spread it on toast, in a cake as butter icing, spread it on your pork chop - or what? What would you folks do with it?

            Spread it on toast or stick your finger in the jar - same way you do with marmite

              It should be like jam only thicker and smoother. Fruit butters can be used as chutneys so maybe this one will go with pork.
