  • R U from Luton?

I've been sitting around this site now on & off 4 abt 12months...
...I love gardening but I need a bit of help...
    & I don't know how 2 ask 4 it..
    So I'm posting this:

    "Help wanted in Luton Gardening"

I don't want a load of sellers trying 2 sell me stuff.
I'd like to know if there is a gardening club or horticultral soc. or similar in this area.
    I don't know Luton well so You'll need 2 give me directions/postcode.

So is there anybody out there who wants to come and play in my garden with me?

    big wink and smile)

    Hi Hope

First things first - what are you asking for - is it help in your garden and what sort of help? Is it because you have a huge garden, or just want a buddy?

...are you new to Luton and that's why you are asking?

I don't understand about the 'sellers trying to sell you stuff'...who do you mean?

If you want to find out about horticultural societies, have you tried asking at the local nurseries/garden centres...they sometimes advertise on the notice boards.

I don't want to be rude...but your post does come across as a little creepy...if you expand a bit you might get some takers.

well you are very welcoming arn't you?
thankyou for being so paitent with me.
I have asked at various garden centres homebases B & Q's in Luton & drawn a blank.
however after I put my message on here I found a group of like-minded people who are in Bedfordshire & I've swapped my name address & as long as there's no ise snow or other obstical to stop my wheelchair I'm going to be going to one of thier meeting's.

It's really nice you answered I was very worried about posting.
I've read several of your posts and have wondered if your mentioning of the moon is to do with the wax & wain and it's effects upon growing seeds?

I may seem a little creepy to lots of people but then I haven't been able to get out since mid Dec08 until yesterday!

      as to garden:
yes it's approx: 30'x40' (10mx 12m?) I grew up on the imperial sys so forgive me if I haven't got the meters correct.

      I need a bit of help also if thier is someone in Luton with no garden who's waiting for an allotment I know what tha's like so they'd be welcome if they want to do a bit of gardening & maybe we could work something out;
well if a person is desperate for a garden then I'm sure we could sort out a few beds for them to do thier own thing on (as long as it's not a rock concert {joke}Tee Hee!)

        Hi Hope.

I'm trialling the moon theory...the link is in my signature to more explanation.

I'm glad that you have found like minded people...please forgive the initial questions. We do get a few strange people in here and your first post wasn't clear what you were looking for.

Hopefully, if anyone in the Luton area is looking for somewhere to grow, they will contact you by PM and you can come to an arrangement.

With that in mind, I'm going to move your thread into the 'Allotment Finder' section...so anyone looking for an allotment can find you quicker.

And, there's nothing wrong with sticking to imperial measurements...I'm a trained engineer and had to do everything in metres for work...but I still measure everything in pounds, ounces, feet and inches. Things just work better that way.

Good luck with your search for someone to help you garden and to share your garden with.

          Hi hopeJava

There are a few new organisations around that aim to bring garden-owners and would-be gardeners together. Try:

          Landshare - What is Landshare

(Our local transition group are doing something similar, but it looks like Luton hasn't joined the transition movement yet...)

I'm from Luton originally - but managed to escape a few years ago (only just up the road). Not sure about gardening societies et al, by default I'm a member of Harlington Gardeners Society due to having an allotment, but I don't get involved.

Have you tried Poplars garden centre - they're pretty good.

Other than that, I'm not much help I'm afraid.

            Hope you find something.

i was thinking, you could contact your local volunteer centre, to ask for help, with raised beds and accessible paths, you could have your garden workable for you in no time

there is also the probation service, who need outside jobs in better weather for the community service people (they are well supervised they decorated my house when i moved in) ..... you do have to buy the stuff, but you might find the help you need

maybe that's not what you are looking for, just thought it would be good if you could do stuff yourself. good luck
