Nicos ..Hi...is there a touch of Greek in that name.????

Land location is dead easy....slap bang in the middle of Retford.

      I await global interest.

Nicos....yes It would be nice to get a lot of people together,, with different size
plots,,growing an nurturing all sorts of wonderful fresh produce....even have a stables on site to provide the smelly stuff....we will wait and see.

I intend to do this properly with good fencing, screening, access and everything a
          good,wholesome project should have...

Move it to south wales and I'll come in on it with you

What are your plans with regard to water? Is it a private project, or land that you're going to propose to the council + setup an association? Sheds? Shop? etc - all worth noting for interest.. also I guess two more important factors for people are cost(s), and size(s).

            Good luck!

Have you thought about putting the offer on Landshare?

If it were a little more south easterly - I'd be in like flynn.....

                Nitts plot

                Chris & Razzen.

                Thanks for the replies.

Sadly my powers exclude divine intervention, so the
plot will have to stay in north Notts...sorry

As you may suspect I am using this forum as a basis on
which to decide on both direction and magnitude for this project,,,,,so the more good, sensible ideas the better,

                keep the feedback comming.

One of the things is to make the request for interest more noticeable....so I've added the location of your plot to the title to draw in anyone that is interested.

Personally, I'd get in touch with the council allotment people and find out what their waiting list is and that will give you an immediate gauge of interest. Also prices etc.

But, I suspect for people to be really interested they would have to be sure that you were in it for the long haul.....just worth mentioning as some people have dug over and planted up plots only for the owners to renege on the 'deal' and all that hard work was for nothing.....not saying you would but people are wary of this.

Razen999....thanks for that....I agree,,whatever I put in place will be something I want my children to be proud of inheriting, as such I will
continue to colate the intel and be in a better position by the new year to get the project ubderway.....

I've just Google mapped Retford...and it's come up all grey!!

Looks like there's a lot of pretty countryside there!
Out of interest- what was your land used for previously?...and what sort of soil is it?
If you are really in for the long haul- what is the drainage like..it makes a lot of difference to the site....easier to sort out now than once peeps have started planting.
We were on a site with collapsed field drains- and the soil was clay...you can imagine how difficult it was to prepare the plots

Water- it REALLY makes all the difference when there is water available too.

                        Nicos...gday

The land was previously used to grow vegetables, and there is a
very clean river flowing along several hundred meters of the eastern boundary....so water not a problem...just need an extraction licence.
As far as I know the soil is good....my house is not that far away
and I grow everything from figs and oranges to blackberrys and rhubarb.......my monkey puzzel and olive trees do particularly well.

From a previous reply....I understand my local council are activelly
promoting and supporting the "green/self sufficiency " thing, so once I get the idea well organised in my mind I will probably approach them and see what the deal is.

One thought brought to me by my daughter was to make the site residential...with the strict caveat that it was going to be an agricultural/horticultural community from scratch,,,I was thinking
log cabins or similar and selling the plots rather than renting out
.....a sort of small-smallhoding development...and do the whole solar /wind/recycling etc thing...gosh ...getting very excited now !!

                        going for a lay down..........................................

Let me know what the thinking is

                        regards ROCKYTHECAT

Oh my word - Rockythecat - you mean a sort of new age village in cabins - a bit like a landlocked Taransay (castaway 2000) - with a community all living and growing together?
                          How exciting!!!
The mind is totally on overtime with possibilities now.

*I think I may need to rest the brain as well

Count me in, I live in Retford and know at least 3 others that would possibly move from our current "vanadalised often" site.
