  • North Tyneside (Wallsend) Allotments.......

I went for a wander around our allotment site today and noticed several vacant plots. Now these plots to be honest are overgrown but with a little hardwork will make fantastic plots, 3 of which I know for certain where "given up" by their former keepers. Why these plots haven't been re-let I do not know, after all there is a hefty waiting list for plots in North Tyneside apparently.

I badgered and badgered our former allotment officer with various freedom of information requests until he called a meeting with me and allowed me to queue jump by taking on an "unlettable" plot (none of the several vacant plots are in anywhere near as bad a condition as mine was, I should add).

I believe our allotment officer has just changed, I will however endeavour to find out the name of our new one in the near future but if anybody would like any further info on which site these vacant plots are on then don't hesitate to contact me.
It was dark. And cold. And very, very empty.

And in the middle of all of the dark, cold, emptiness lay something darker, and colder, but very, very full.

Our letting periods are from May to May. If your site is the same or similar, this could be why the plots are unlet?

Our rents fall due on August 1st Snadger, since last August not a singl plot has been let. We just seem to have a very lackadaisical and apathetic allotment services manager, emails go unanswered, telephone calls remain unreturned, repairs take an age if at all and plots are left to go to wreck n ruin. I can't vouch for the other sites in N Tyneside but ours certainly is overlooked when it comes to any money being spent on it .

        Hi,

Do you know if there are currently any unlet plots? we have been looking around but private plots are very expensive. Thanks

Yes there are still several unlet plots on the site, yet an ever growing waiting list so I'm told.

These are really old posts Wade, dating back to 2010.

              Hello and welcome though,
Why not stick a post in the 'introduce yourself' thread and tell everyone you're looking for plot and roughly whereabouts you are.
Someone may well be able to help you!

Hi I realise that this thread is old and that there hasn't been any activity here for a while however somebody posted the link in my introduce yourself post. My partner has been registered for an allotment in North Tyneside for 3 years and I recently registered my interest for a couple of sites in Wallsend. Some people have suggested I would be better off going down to some sites and finding out if anything is available. I am thinking of doing that over the next week or so but if you still have any information about possible plots could you message me please. We don't mind hard work so quite like the idea of turning round the unlettable even though we will be learning as we go.

Ours is the other end of the toon, too far inland and miles away from Wallsend..All our plots are taken anyway!

If Stobbs31 has a good look at that link I posted he can contact each site Secretary in the area he is prepared to garden at. He may be lucky and find a vacant plot!

A couple of our plotholders have aquired plots through applying from the web page.

Alternatively, he/she can get a hold of Mark Todd (Allotment Officer) on the phone number on the web page and he will pass his/her details onto local Site Secretaries.

Thanks for the links guys. Been working late and just having a good look at them now. There is definitely some sites on the website that aren't a million miles away from home so will be applying
