Are there any stats on national averages for waiting lists. I just got mine after 6 years

If everyone could add to this thread with their own knowledge a clear picture should emerge which could generate significant publicity

Moderator Can you edit this and make it a sticky??

          West Cumbria -

          Council - 3-5 years
Town Council - 35 on list, but people in the parish go on before you, so could be years
Private ones - 5 on list, but only 5 plots, so could be years!

Average around my area is 2 years. I went from 2/3 years down to ~1 after the waiting list were asking to pay to joint the allotment association. If I remember correctly I'm 9th on the list?

Smallest list around me if 4 people, but that site is very small.. 5/6 odd allotments? I'd love to get there, as it's so close but it's a very tight not community apparantly! Therefore, I can't see anyone giving 1 up, let alone 4 to get me next inline

We had about fifty on our waiting list, when plots came available the first twelve people on the list either had got a plot on another site, didnt want one yet or had changed their mind but had never bother to inform the manager about the change of circumstances, so dont put to much stead in waiting list there will be a new fad along in a bit and there will be plenty of plots to go around.

We have at least one plot available in our area. It's hard to get exact figures because the people who run our sites are technophobes ... information tends to be on backs of envelopes as far as I can make out: we have a waiting list at our site, but my rep won't tell me how many people are on it (in single figures I expect)

How does one know how many people are going to:
Die [it happens] and not have their plot taken up by a close relative
                          Move
                          Get bored
                          Get evicted
Get annoyed at the increase in rent and walk away

The waiting list [time wise] is a red herring; if you really want to know, an FoI request was sent to all councils to ask how many people were on the list and it was published last year; but as soon as it is published - it is out of date.

For the site I am on there are 52 half plots, Nine are on the waiting list. There are five sites and about 80 on the lists altogether.

I'm in South Liverpool - got mine (full plot) in late 2009 after only a couple of months on the list - maybe just lucky?
