  • Birmingham allotment site

Called in to visit my niece yesterday and she showed me round the local allotments where she and her husband have a double plot. Its a lovely position for gardening on a South facing bank with a stream at the bottom and quite a few large trees here and there. One interesting thing is that there are loads of pebbles in the soil all over the place, which proves back in geological time it was once on the bank of a large river or lake shore (could also have been a a sea I suppose, but I couldn't see any marine fossils). Anyway I had a chat with a couple of gardeners there in the Spring sunshine, seemed they'd found a haven in the city to connect with the natural world .

So for anyone who lives near enough I'd say it was an almost ideal place of its type, and they have a couple of vacant plots at the moment, web link below :-

In case you're wondering, I've moved this to "Allotment Finder" where people search for sites in their area.
    (It sounds lovely!)

But would any self-respecting Brummie wish to garden amongst the yam-yams?
