Why it's women who dig allotments - Features - Yorkshire Post

    right at the bottom:

allotments in Leeds. However if anyone was to ask in the allotment office for a plot on the Church Lane Allotments, Headingly (entry on Woodbridge Garth as the top of Church Lane is now closed), they could have their pick of any number.

edit: ignore that - don't know when the comment is from but I thought the date on the article was today but it's not.

Article is more perpetuated myth as my mum had her first allotment when I was aged 15 and I used to go and help her. It's not all flat caps and shaky pudding on allotments. I am now 45!

Those were the days, alldigging! I wonder if there is anywhere in the uk where there is no waiting list? There are 180 people waiting for a plot at our (smallish) Ilkley lotties. My friend was told 'probably not in your lifetime'.

We have 21 waiting and there are 68, 2.5 rod plots. The waiting list is generally around this number.
