  • YEY!!! I have my allotment

    I'm just so excited!

I've been on the allotment waiting list for three years and finally a five pole plot came up last week which I graciously accepted of course .

Went to see it at the weekend but I already knew which one it was because I've been making a nuisanse of myself down the allotments for a year or so . It's terribly overgrown! But.....it has four apple trees, gooseberries bushes, red/black current bushes (not sure which yet), rhubarb, loganberry bushes and I've inherited a brassica cage, tons of long canes, a double compost wooden bin, oh and a beehive .

I just wanted to share my excitement and start getting involved in the allotment chat. Although there is a hard slog ahead of us, the whole family are really looking foward to it.

Anyone able to point me in the right direction of a thread about how to get started on an overgrown allotment please?

Well done Borisbump, and just in time for the autumn digging too!
Here is a link to a thread started by a very dear grape, who had some sound advice on just what you ask.

Or just search in the allotment forum under 'overgrown' or 'taming' or some similar terms - there will be lots there
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Congratulations on finally getting a plot and then getting one that has established fruit, brassica cage and a beehive. Alls you need to find now as you clear, is a asparagus bed and it's a full house. Enjoy.

Hey Boris. Congrats on your new plot. Best answer I will give is do the clearing little and often. As you clear an area, dig it over and leave it rough as you like but leave it open to the elements. The frost will break down any lumps over the winter. Once you have everything cleared, feet up with a glass of beer and some seed catalogues.
