    What other seeds should I buy...?

    OK, I know this is a "how long is a piece of string" type of question but: I'm joining the tromboncino challenge and I also fancy some Mini Munch cucumber seeds to grow in among some climbing beans.

    But it seems a bit ridiculous to pay the postage for just two packets of seeds so: is there anything you grow that you think is particularly worth it?

    So's you know, I've got plenty of the following seeds but won't mind recommendations of other varieties: toms, peppers, aubergines, carrots, parsnips, celeriac, beetroot, spinach, the usual brassicas (including kohl rabi, turnips, kales and radishes), onions and shallots, melons, courgettes and squash, green manures and edible flowers. And I don't like physallis.

    Is this perhaps a silly question? Maybe, but who doesn't like more seeds!

    extra salad stuff seldom goes to waste eg radish, leaf greens etc + if you have the space how about growing some climbing beans for storing as dried beans ?

        Its a silly question!!
        Check how many seeds there are in the Minimunch packet - if its only a few (like 5), order a couple of packets ready for next year. They'll store!
        What about peas/mangetout?

        Lots of companies are offering Free P&P over Easter - may be worth checking you supplier.

          I was thinking about growing some beans for drying actually, so that's a good reminder, nick.

          Achocha isn't an option I think. We get cops in low-flying helicopters in this area, looking for plantations of a similarly-leafed plant (the population density is very low here, so it does happen). And I'd rather not get embroiled with them (the locals call them the Ninjas because they come down on ropes from the helicopters with guns, big guns), however innocent the plant.

          More of the same, is a good idea, VC.

          As for the free postage boys, I checked and nearly added a mini rant because neither of them sells it. Bah!

                One seed I would recommend anyone buying is a variety of pea called Blaushokker which I grew last year and can be found on the Dobies website, below is an extract of the description from their site. Its from the Rob Smith heritage range and has both purple flowers and purple pods which makes picking them a doddle, the cool thing is that the peas inside the pods are green and sweet and taste delicious. Don't know about you but picking peas is a nightmare as spotting the pods is difficult at the best of times, the amount of peas I've missed is huge. I've just ordered 5 packets.

                  ALL OF THEM.

                  I like Cobra for French beans, Trafalgar for sprouts and Romanescu for courgettes. The French pumpkin Rouge vif d'etamps was outstanding for flavour last year.

                    Those flowers look beautiful. Only problem is Dobies doesn't sell Tromboncino except as plug plants. But I'll remember those peas for next year.

                      I've just looked at the people who have Tromboncino seeds and they also have the Rouge Vif d'Etampes. It says they grow to 18 kg in weight... That's a fair-sized squash for two people to work their way through. How big were the ones you grew?

                        Oh, the people I can get the Tromboncino seeds from also have these, but with a slightly different spelling. Didn't spot them first time round. Great recommendation. Thanks, Muddy_Boots.

                          Tromboncino (of course)
                          BLAUWSCHOKKER peas (Thanks, Muddy_Boots)
                          Early Onward peas to try VC's daft idea from last year that worked (Thanks, VC)
                          La Diva cucumber (recommended on another thread by BikerMike, I think; Mini Munch no longer in stock)
                          Lark sweetcorn (always good to have more in stock and I'll be sowing direct, so better be prepared for a few failures; thanks NG)
                          De Árbol chilli
                          Dill
                          Marjoram
                          Hyssop
                          Bee balm
                          Cerinthe

                          So, many thanks to everyone for the help and inspiration.

                            I didn't weigh the lead candidate from the rouge but it made me stagger to carry it and I still have portions of it roasted in the freezer...
