  • Potential Allotment

    Hi all,

I have decided I dont have enoguh space in the Garden to grow things.

I emalled our local council and got put in the direction of the local managment group.

I have got to give her a call at luch time to discuss.

Is their any specific questions I should ask in refernace to a allotment?

Size, rent, water supply, can you have buildings (sheds etc) or any other restrictions. I wouldn't go into soil type at this stage as I would want to see for myself with the exception of asking about know soil borne deseases. You might also want to ask if the plot is shaded and how long its been vacant.

How long is the waiting list? and realistically how does that transfer to time i.e weeks, months or years?

I would ask also how many plots there are available and see them all. Don't be fobbed off with the first one she shows you.
Our plot guy listened to everything about us and the kids and showed us several. But had a specific one in mind and showed it us last. He was right the last one was just right for us.

I am bases in walsall in the west mids and I am now the proud renter of a full plot.

I have half a plot to work with now that needs some tlc and will have the other half in April.

I am next to the site maanager who currently has the other half to me, she is leaving me her aspargus bed 3rd year and srtrberry plants!

I have some picture but cant upload them at the moment.

I have also inherited rasberry canes! I am a bit daunted but most of the weeds seem to pull out by hand. Has all day sun in the summer and next to the water tap. Also inherite a herb garden that need cutting back and some spinach and rubarb.

I am not expected to pay anything untill april and then it is 47 a year including water.

I also get a pre built compost bin

                              in total i have 40 x 70 ft!
