  • Novel companion planting!

I am running short of space and still have some galdioli and maincrop spuds to plant. I intend planting the spuds as normal (I don't earth up spuds!) and dotting the gladioli in between.
Hopefully the gladdies will add a bit of colour to the potato bed and the corms and spuds should be ready for lifting at the same time!

Before anyone asks btw, I don't use supports on my gladdies as I find they support themselves! The only worry I have is that the potato foliage will swamp the gladdie foliage?

Dame Edna would be so proud!

Sounds like a cracking idea to me, do let us know how it goes.
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

Hi there Snadger, i think the gladdies should grow up above the spuds, dependant on the type you grow and what stage you put them in, but a great idea.

I'm all for a bit of space saving. You NEVER have enough room! A picture when they are all 'doing the business' would be interesting.
