    New Allotment

    Hi

    Spent yesterday at the lotty, new plot is starting to look like a lotty.

    Hubby spent time digging and we now have one bed. I could not wait for the weed killer to do its stuff so I started pulling the grass out by hand. I have been told that the weed killer may take up to three weeks.

    So looking forward to getting more dug over next weekend its such a pity I have to work, no lottery win this weekend

    glad to see your enjoying our lottie,strange how quickly that bug gets hold isn't it and you just can't wait anymore lol i'm a new lottie holder like you and mines is starting to look less like a jungle and the satisfaction you feel is unbeatable in my view

      Bad news PT - The weed killer won't work at all this weather You need to spray it when it is growing strongly and the weather is dry for at least 2 or 3 hours.

        Hi Nick the Grief

        I realised on Sunday that it probably had not worked when talking to one of the other lotty owners, however it was this person who recommend for us it do it, however it was done in dry weather. Some of the grass has started to turn brown.

        I am quiet happy about it really because I did not like the idea of putting killer down in the first place, but several people were saying it is the best thing to do.

        I actually love ripping the grass up by hand and then getting hubby to dig it.

          Hi PT,

          OK about that. I wouldn't worry too much about Roundup. sometime you just have to be pragmatic about these things and get a bit of extra help wjen you start. I can only get down at weekends so if I wanted to do it without the use of weedkiller I'd have given up years ago. I don't use many sprays (apart from a few I have to use on my Chrysanths) so it's as organinic as I can be. I guess it's the difference between vegetarian & Vegan.

          My Wife came down to the new plot this weekend (only the 2nd time she's been down since I took on an allotment) and she found it really relaxing ( plus the filter coffee helped ) so I know what you mean about enjoying being on the plot. I can quite easilyt sit up there and just chill out when it's raining.

            Your right Nick ,Weed killer is a thing that can make it all seem less
            daunting. I have had mine eleven months and its been slow progress.
            On the same subject a couple have taken on one of the plots over
            from me and its pure cooch . But they have been digging away and
            so far done a great job cleared a nice area , But oh my a huge heap
            of roots and grass
            The force is strong in this one!
