are we too late to dig in manure ,,we haven't got any yet but know where we can get some but don't know if it will be rotted down,,,we will be planting seedlings rather than seeds but got a feeling that we have left it too late to add manure

If it's well rotted then it should be OK, if not start or add it to a compost heap.

As has been said if well rotted then no problem. I have not manured or composted my ground yet as the weather has not been that kind. Where you are going to grow the bean family I would spread the ground with manure, cover it with polythene and let the bugs do the biz over the next month. Next montth is when we here look at really getting going and it amused me to see people sowing like mad and planting out as since we have had a couple of frosts. Yes , then use the other as a mulch,I am a firm believer as pile it on, if not this then next. over to you as it is your plot. pick the info you want and go for it, if your wrong, apart from you who cares. I wondre what the other people are doing on site, also they do say watch the farmers in your area. good luck and what ever you do if the manure is to rich there is always next year. cheers now Lez

I haven't manured my plot yet either, owing to lack of a round tuit

On beds that I'm not going to be planting into for a couple of months, I'm going to cover the soil with manure and leave the rain and worms to work on it for a bit. As the others have said, as long as it's well-rotted, it shouldn't do any harm. If it's still a bit coarse and lumpy come planting-out time, I'll just move it aside and plant in the holes

Of course this won't work so well if you're sowing direct - in that case you might want to dig it in a bit.

Mulch, mulch, mulch, mulch and more mulch! Thats the way to add well rotted manure...........at any time of the year! (In my humble opinion!)
