  • Lotty Advice Update

As some of you know, I was a bit concerned because I took over a plot that was still full of veg and the old holder hadn't been seen for a while. Well I've just had a call from the Manager cos the previous holder is now back and furious because someone has dug his plot over and 'stolen' his tatties.

I can understand he might be a bit shocked but he was told that I've been storing his potatoes and he's had 3/4 of the plot dug over and thoroughly weeded. I on the other hand have been left with no plot (hopefully just a temporary problem)

    No plot???

Why did they let you have it if they hadn't given proper notice to the other chap? Was he ill or something?

If he'd been given notice and you'd signed for the plot then somethings gone very wrong.

I'm watching this space. Something really seriously wrong going on and it's clearly not of your making

Yep he's been ill for 3 months and no one has seen him. the site manager had planned to give him the larger plot over from mine/his old one as he wanted more space. i dont think i want this one with him on the otherside. he'd probably throw clods at me

you can throw his tatties back at him

it's not your fault ........well if they've given you a tenancy then they need to make good

Having been given a legal contract (which your signed agreement is, )they are obliged to give you a plot, and I would think compensation for the work you have put in- ie if offered another overgrown plot, the least you could expect would be for it to be cleared for you at their expense. let us know how they respond. Good luck.

Thanks F&V - Im hoping it will be resolved easily and ammicably. I'm going to drop his tatties off to the lotty club house so he know's Im not a potato thief!! They said there are some spare plots so I'm hoping to have one of them. I dont really want this one now cos the guy who used to have it sounds a bit nasty. It's not my fault and I think it's a genuine mistake by the management, so who knows, maybe one day we'll laugh about it over our spades.

Well I know the Manager and him are meeting on Saturday morning to discuss it and I want to try and get the potatoes back by then. I knew I should have listened to my gut when I first started working on the site.

Don't be too hasty to judge him Lizzy. If no-one from the committee contacted him or gave him notice then he has every right to be furious. It's probably not directed at you, but at the committee.

I'm sure you can win him round by explaining to him what has happened. If he thinks about it, I'm sure he'll realise that he has had his plot dug over without any effort on his part - and all thanks to your hard work. Its a difficult situation though and I can understand that you may not want to be his immediate neighbour as things stand at present. Do you know anyone else on the site (other than the "manager" (a misnomer) who could explain the situation to the man and act as a middleman?
