  • Grass path cutting - what are my options?

I think I'm a bit stuck with what to do with my grass paths, but wanted to check I haven't missed anything obvious. ..

We only have a half plot. The main cross path and the access path alongside are just grass (and weeds!) The smaller, between the beds ones are cardboard and weed membrane.

Last season I simply crawled around on my knees and ripped up handfuls to keep it under control (surprising ly effective once you have the knack). Gardent shears I find painful to use. The ground is very uneven.

I don't have a petrol strimmer, have nowhere to store petrol or strimmer, there's no electricity.

Am I missing any other option?

A small Push mower set as high as possible and as you continue to cut some of the unevenness will disappear and then the cut can be lowered, next year perhaps. You will gradually mow out some of the coarser grass. That is what I did with the field that is now my garden.

I have a battery strimmer which I use early in the season and then a push mower later on.

My paths were awful when I took the plot on..
I picked up a husqvarna novocut 64 push mower, for just a tenner soon tamed the paths!

This is the lowest setting. 12mm

Even the ground up by gradually filling the holes up with soil.

There are some ridiculously cheap mowers on eBay at the minute... So cheap you could leave it under a tarp and not worry if it got nicked!

I covered my paths with weed suppressant fabric, tucked down the edge of the bed a bit. This means that I can mound the soil up in the beds which improves the drainage. I still have to spot weed the membrane when dandelions force their way through but its significantly reduced the amount of work I have to do.

the paths within my plot are just weed control fabric, which I sweep regularly .The grass paths between plots I cut with an old rotary petrol mower I recovered from a skip. try freecycle or freegle to source an unwanted mower you may be surprised by the response
