    Fox deterrent

    Any good fox deterrents?


    I have some mesh I put over seed beds to stop them being nosey at what I've just planted.
    Some others are building giant play pens out of chicken wire to keep foxes off.

    Someone has suggested shooting them.

    Oldham council website says:
    Pest control | Oldham Council
    It mentions Renardine and Scoot.
    I don't think getting rid of earthworms is sensible advice at all.

    I've heard that have bags of human hair around the perimeter can deter foxes from your chickens as can peeing around the edges.

    I don't have problems with foxes so I haven't needed to test the theory.
    I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

      I can confirm that human piddle is a fox deterent (Probaly where the term P.ss off came from lol) I know gamekeepers used to pee round pheasants nests to keep the fox away.

        My brother was a game keeper and I can confirm he used to pee around his pens but the shotgun was his friend

          Urine from a meat eating man certainly deters them but it's by no means fool proof. I had much less success with Renardine and glow-in-the dark predator eyes, pop bottles full of water and sonic noise box things didn't work at all.

            I sometimes think this pee-ing lark for getting rid of foxes is just to justify it if you get caught in the act!eek:

              You have to understand the foxes.....the young like to play chase games and often take the path of least resistance! I use short pieces of cane stuck in the ground in an arc shape, at an angle,to help keep them off the most vulnerable plants, and at both ends of cloche tunnels (they do like a tunnel!) I also place them at the opposite corners of beds where I know they like to take a shortcut, They are then much more likely to stick to the paths and do less damage.

                Foxes are like dogs and follow the same routine, so make them change their routine. I feed the fox with cooked chicken carcass left well away from my veg patch.

                  It's all part of nature for me - foxes deal with the rabbits on our plot.

                  Birds, mice, foxes, rabbits, humans, etc - surely there is enough for us all to enjoy a bit of something??
