    Brassica Cages

    Hi i wonder if anyone can point me in the right place .I'm looking to build some cages using
    the build a ball system . But cant seem to find any metal tubing IE half inch .

    You can use the build-a-ball thingys with bamboo if that's any help. Or try "dowling" from B&Q or somewhere similar.

      Hi,

      I use tennis balls and bamboo canes which worked out a lot cheaper, and they even stayed up in the windy weather.

        Think somebody I know bought some of Two Wests and Elliott - not cheap though so you could be better going with some of the options above.

          Hi Pete,

          Why not make it out of canes & roof lath. If you drill the lath you can put a galvanised nail through & cut the head off then stick this into the canes

              Also known as slaters lath (latts) Cheap form of timber used for fastening slates onto roofs! Approximately 1/12" x 1" section various lengths. Rough cut pine. Cheap to buy and can be got from any hardware shop!

                  No Probs Snadger, I get mine froma local timber merchant & they have the added benefit that they are tanalised so don't rot. I also use them for greengouse staging & the shelving

                      Brassica Cages

                      My brother-in-law devised a cunning and effective cage to keep out the wood pigeons that dominate our allotment. He bought some bendable but strong 1 inch plastic tubing from the DIY store (the stuff they normally use for electric cables). Used 1 or 2 metre sections to form a long cloche he put a bamboo cane in each end of the tube and pushed it in the ground. Using four "hoops" for a 25 foot stretch he then tightened them with bamboos canes joining them together at the tops and covered them with netting . Finally he created a " door" at one end You then just tightly peg down the netting.
                      When not in use they can be easily stowed away at the back of the shed for re-use.
