  • allotment funding

I am in North Manchester and have been provided by local council with details of grants available.

can I pick some brains here?

Has anyone else been in touch with Bury Council and been successful in getting anything?
Has anyone in UK been successful and if so which type of grant.
Has anyone any suggestions as to how to add a community aspect to allotmenting which satisfies grant requirements.

    many thanks

Rustylady's site got funding for a new perimeter fence a few years ago, and the council have just replaced ours too. I don't know what grant etc would be involved, that's for the council to decide I guess, we just made a phone call asking for it.

Have you heard of Local Agenda 21? Do a bit of research on that.

Allotments are green spaces that definitely benefit the whole community (even if indirectly, like through recycling green waste, providing food for bees etc)

The allotment I used to be on got funding for the fitting of razor wire along a wall that had no security measures other than being over 9ft tall. The council wouldn't have paid for it.

Depends what they mean by community. The allotment users themselves are a community and as such it helps a community. If they mean the community of the area in which the allotments are based then you could argue that any improvements done could be seen as investment in the future of the allotments for community use for the future.
