    TS I think you are spot on with your observations- especially the enjoyment aspect of it and also the go- ahead-and-give-a-go attitude.
    I would add that growing my own food has given me a real connection and appreciation of what I eat. Something I think a lot of folks have disconnected from.
    Enjoy your plot and produce.

    - don't leave any soil bare. Cover it with something ...plants, mulch*, membrane ... or else you'll find it covered with weeds again

    * I use old crops as mulch: right now my old leeks and PSB are covering a few beds until the sweetcorn goes in.

    I just fell for this one - went on holiday for a week, very sunny, came back, jungle and a hundred seeding dandelions in the patch at the bottom of my plot that I haven't got to yet. Big mistake! Should have covered it in the winter...
