I've just watched a wasp attacking a speckled wood butterfly in the garden. Eventually it flew off, it looked like it was carrying the head of the butterfly. Is this normal behaviour? I wasn't fond of wasps before, even less of a fan now!

Wasps feed their larvae on caterpillars, and a butterfly is just a caterpillar with wings. Bit late to be feeding brood now though, this time of year they're usually after sugary stuff 'cos they have no brood to feed.
I made apple jelly at the weekend, and had 5 wasps come into the kitchen through the open window, attracted by the smell of sugary apples.Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land

I often watch them hunting the spiders on the debris netting, their will also have a go at wormsComment

I got some video this year of wasps eating CW butterflies. I was catching them in a fishing net, squishing them and then the wasps ate what was left. Like a horror film it was, we got 40 between us one day
