the closest likeness in my Collins pocket guide is xanthorhoe fluctuata - the garden carpet moth. Called that apparently because the patterns look like traditional carpet patterns
not because it's going to eat the carpets!

I don't know what it is but the markings look like a bird - a swallow perhaps with a forked tail
