    Hideous spider

    I moved some wood that had been lying in my polytunnel for a few weeks yesterday and this was living underneath - the biggest, fastest, butchest spider I have ever seen in Scotland:



    I can't stand spiders and this one made my blood curdle - the picture doesn't do it justice, but the barcode gives you an idea of it's size. I remember seeing some whoppers in the South of England, but generally they are much smaller up here - must be the nice climate in my tunnel!

          I'm not sure it's as big as the one that our painter found in a communal hallway last year. After he disturbed it, it tried to squeeze through a gap about 1/2 inch high but it was too big (or so he says). He took a photo but I was too freaked out to ask him to send it to me so I've no evidence.

            Sorry, but that spider and I cannot co-exist in the same physical space - it was dispatched to the plot next door - i just hope they don't have a homing instinct!

                  I like spiders, they get rid of loads of other things I don't want. We used to have a massive one that lived somewhere in the front room, ran across the room at some point every night, usually made the cat jump

                  Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

                  Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

                    We have loads in the coldframe. One looked like it had an eggsack, all lumpy and bumpy... I left well alone.
                    When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
                    If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

                      Hi it is amazing what good this specimen can do fo rthe gardener.

                      He/she will find the garden enemy before we can so i say bring them on and make little areas for them to multiply, they are as they say free fly and insect catchers and believe we need all th ehelp we can get on th eplot

                        I like spiders and they do a lot of good.

                        But if I'm in a room with a huge dive bombing daddylonglegs...Eeeek!!

                          I like spiders - however big they are. There are a few that live in the house that I regard as pets and say hello to them whenever I see them.

                          You always thought I was nuts - does this confirm it?

                            I don't like spiders at all especially the big ones that come in the house late summer. But I know they have a useful place in the grand scheme of things so as long as they stay away from me I'll live and let live.....
