  • DIY hive stands?

I finally got the go ahead for getting bees on my plot a few days back *does happy waggle dance*. I have a hive my lovely Dad made me for Christmas, but I don't have any kind of stand to put it on.

I'm not a great woodworker, especially with just hand tools, but I'd really rather avoid spending money if I don't have to. Does anyone have any advice on making a simple stand?

I'd like it to be long enough that I can put supers on it during inspections, or keep a nuc on there sometimes, which is the other issue with bought ones- they're just a stand for the one hive, no extra.

I don't care if it's pretty, so long as it's strong enough.

    Thanks for any advice!

Ours was made from pallets - just a long low bench thing. It was big enough to take two hives with a space between the hives for supers.

That sounds like what I had in mind, I don't suppose you have any pictures do you Veggiechicken?

I have a load of good strong wood some eejit threw on the leaf mould pile I was hoping to use, it's just that I haven't ever made anything really functional before!

        Sorry, it was years ago!
A bit like this one but lower and without the bottom tier.

Can you not just go on free cycle or to the car boot and see if there is an old dining table going cheap? It'll be big enough and if you give it a couple of coats of outside paint it should last a few years
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

I make my hive stands from pallet wood.
                  4 verticals
two horizontals on each side - one at top, one nearer the bottom.

                  Make tow sides first.
Attach two sides using verticals and horizontals on remaining sides.
Tools: saw, measure and drill /screwdriver.
