  • The work of a rat?

    Am well aware there a rats nr us all , but wondering if this is a rat? We have voles and field mice.
    Been sorting around side of greenhouse for brassica area redoing.
    Under a pallet and membrane, found some poo and then tunnels.

    Image 1 looks like the right shape vs other images in 'tinternet - if its length is about the same as the diameter of a penny coin then I'd say its pretty definite...

      Could be, the droppings are about a cm long and very black.

        How big are the droppings? Rat droppings as pointed out above are quite big

          I'd say rat...they also love to tunnel under card. cant really tell the size of the droppings but they look thick enough. You don't really get those tunnels with mice do much. I have terrible problems if I lay card down as a mulch, they are there like a shot!

            It's about an inch , just over..long.

            I'm not surprised. Had one yrs ago appear. Neighbour has just removed his ancient shed so it's probably moved to ours grrr and she is always putting food out on the grass.

              Vole holes/ tunnels are about an inch wide...rat about 2"

              1" long poo?...that sounds a bit big for a rat

                Il measure the hole tomo.
                oH thought too big for rat but was under a pallet. What else ? Fox like but too little of it, OH thought owl but usually able too see bones etc in it .
