  • What is it?

    Hi,
I have these in my allotment. I was told they were suckers from a tree that had been cut down but as you can see it has roots.
So could you tell me what it is and how to get rid of them. They are everywhere.
    Thanks

I would agree with hazel. Do you have squirrels around which may have buried them or they have just fallen.

Looks like hazel to me too - keep pulling them up while they're small. If they are suckers, you won't be able to!!

if pulling is too hard, then shear them off: with sharp shears or a lopper

Thanks for that. I knew you would know for me . Have got a load of trees surrounding my second plot but not seen any squirrels or Hazel trees.
But I don't think the two beds were used last year so that would probably explain why some of them are quite big and also the mild winter so the squirrels haven't needed to dig them up.
Had the kids pulling the heads off dandelions today. They really enjoyed that job and they were very popular with everyone especially when I gave them trowels to gig them up. Think I will have to give them trowels tomorrow and get them to pull the hazel up. Prize for the one who pulls up the biggest will encourage them
