  • What is eating my pea seedlings?

Something is eating my pea seedlings. I can't see any slug trails. Could it be mice? Here is a link to a picture I took of them if that is of any help. http://www.vegswap.co.uk/blog/image....otment+009.jpg. How would I stop mice? I think they ate my carrots last year too. Help!!

        No piccie for me too.

But if it's mice- you may find a 1" hole fairly nearby!

Mice ate a fair few of our carrots too last year- we put down mouse traps under fleece so no bird could set them off

Your link doesn't work. Slugs don't always leave a trail you can see.

I couldn't see the pic but if you have sparrows it could be them. The little nuisance birds were eating my peas as fast as they were coming out of the ground. I had to net them over to keep them off.
They eat the buddlia, crab apple, prunus amanagawa too. Little nuisance birds.

I can now see your photo, but not the damage, sorry.

Sparrows will rip the leaves to shreds - they go for young beetroot leaves too, at this time of year.

Mice eat the seeds, not the leaves.

Slugs will eat the leaves, and pea weevil will bite U-shaped notches out of the leaves.

Pea moth will lay her eggs in the flowers so you get maggotty peas.

Eventually, you might get to eat some of the pea too!

I have the same trouble and I think it is something in the soil.
I set some peas of which only a few germinated.
Last year I set the peas dusted with Derris Powder I had an abundance.
But now that derris powder has been banned the pests in the soil are having a feast.
Can anyone come up with an alternative to Derris

                      What soil pests?
It's only mice that eat pea seeds, and you can get round them by pre-germinated the seeds, and planting them when they have sprouted.

Then you have to watch out for the pigeons (round here, you do!)
