  • tomato leaves frost damage , virus or weedkiller

Hello I put my tomatoes out about 7 days ago in there pots / hanging baskets, but the leaves are showing damage of sorts. There have been a couple of early frosts that I didn't expect, is the damage to the frosts and winds, last week or is it a virus the has shown in last few days?.
Another possible cause is the neighbour's in flat upstairs last year we saw them pouring unknown liquid over balcony in pots , spitting on plants and spraying deodorant cans over above them. I am hoping that the damage is not down to them spraying something over them a bit more damaging but I would not put it past them.
    Please see photos
    Thank you for any help.

Welcome to the vine. You don't say where in the country you are. It helps when giving advice.

I think that the damage might be caused by wind. Frost turns the leaves black. Weed killer would make the leaves droop and look sick. The other thing is water on the leaves acting as a burning glass. They may well recover.

i think the water on leaves thing has been disproved nowadays. My money is on the cold, tomatoes will not stand any amount of frost. What is more interesting is your neighbours behaviour, can you get a video of that?

I'd agree with looking cold with wind damage. Where were they grown before planting out and how long were they hardened off before planting out. As said before location is very helpful.

Agree with you. Maybe you didn't harden them off enough.

I hardened them off for 5 days but the day after I put them out we has a frost in the morning
And a day of stong wind.

The brown patches on the leaves is that also weather damage?

                Thanks David

Yes, I think it's all weather damage. Several years ago it was a cold spring like this. I waited until June to put my beans out and they still didn't florish as the night time temps were still very low. Beans don't like frost. Personally I'd start again. I haven't started my runners as I believe the weather hasn't warmed up enough yet, my french beans were only started off in pots a few day ago.
