  • Something eating my greens

I grow a veg garden for my iguanas. Every year I try to grown collards, kale, turnip greens, arugula (rocket), endive and a few other greens. Every year the leaves get eaten right off the stems before they are large enough to harvest. I dont want to use a chemical pest killer because I harvest and feed these raw. What is eating my greens and how do I safely get rid of it?

Probably slugs or snails? Grow your plants on into modules so they are big enough to withstand a slug attack. Use beer traps. Collect late evening with a torch and bag them.

Hi Iguana Momma and welcome . I'm guessing that you don't live in the UK and there maybe pests attacking your greens that we do not have here.
Slugs and snails would be my guess too.

        thanks

Hi, no I live in the southern US but this board came highly recommended by a friend. I've never seen any slugs in the garden but I'll keep a better eye out.

I've even tried raised beds one year and those were eaten just as quickly.

The little black slugs are the worst They hide in the joints of the raised beds or under pots. Good hunting!

Slugs also recently took out a couple of my cauliflowers. Its going to be another long summer with these. A jar of beer has been moderately successful last year, not sure if you get slugs in the US, we didnt get them here(Czech Rep) until recently, another gardener told me they got in through food imports from Spain.
