    Slug resistant plants

    Everybody seems to have a problem with them.There are some plants that slugs won't touch though.I thought that highly aromatic foliage should discourage them.I was wrong as this year they had a fiesta on basil and marigolds(especially flower buds).But they never touched parsley and rosemary.
    Good to know as next year I'm going to plant parsley everywhere.
    Do you know any more plants that are slug resistant?Herbs,veggies,flowers that you could squeeze on your veg plot to stop these greedy beasties.Any ideas welcome.

    They love succulent tender foliage, so tend to leave woody herbs like Rosemary and Lavender along. However, basil has soft leaves so they will happily munch away. No idea why they left the parsley alone, but they haven't touched mine either. They (or snails) did eat all the flower buds off my aquilegia - think it was probably snails as they climb more on plants than slugs do.

      The slugs round here ate loads of my marigolds and my basil as well, and are now feasting on my pansies! They haven't touched my lavenders though

        I grow a lot of comfey which is quite succulent, but the slugs never seem to touch it! I think it's probably something to do with it's 'hairy' leaves!

          i grew loads of wild flowers this year, including borage, didn't see any slugs on that patch, they all moved house to munch on my turnips and broccoli ....... they never touched my parsnips though

            I think I remember reading that Parsnip foliage contains an acid which can be caustic to humans and cause burns? If it will burn the human skin........slugs have no chance.
            How about growing parsnips as a compannion plat to deter slugs? Related to Henbane and Mandrake as well me thinks which has a bit of a reputation for naughtiness!

              well the bunny doesn't like parsnip leaves either ....... so maybe thats why??

                The monsters down here seem very keen on my comfrey - although I let them off because they leave most of my herbs alone although they rampage their way through everything else in the garden.

                They seem to ignore the sage, rosemary, lemon balm, mint, bay, bronze fennel, borage, lady's mantle, lavender, parsley, marjoram. I've never really thought about it before, but they don't seem to eat any of my herbs, either they don't like any of them or the herb beds are particularly well patrolled by hedgehogs and birds.
                Life is too short for drama & petty things!
                So laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly!
