Hi y'all
I have about half an acre of tatties planted, ridged up with some just breaking through.
However, the last three or four nights have seen some critter or critters tunneling into the outside ridges and making off with my Lady Christl tubers - there are no droppings near the crime scene, and equally suspicious, no remains of the tuber either.
I haven't known rabbits to take raw potatoes before. Can you advise on the likelihood of them being the culprits. Other possibilities may be hares, foxes, pheasants, hoodie crows, pigeons and rats.
Whatever it is will be shot - as you can see I have plenty of things to shoot this year.
Anyone any similar experiences ?

One of the old guys on the allotments said he lost his crop of PFA tatties to rats! Apparently it was a similar scenario to yours sewer rat!

Sounds like you're going to have to camp out Rat!!!

What a shame Rat. No direct experience, but I'd put my money on foxes or rats. The rest don't look like likely culprits.

Updated November 17th - The Big Dig

Wasn't sure what it was as there didn't seem to be any pawprints and I'd never heard of rabbits taking tatties but this morning there were definite rabbit tracks where another tattie had been dug out! Going out at midnight with my mate to rid Easter Ross of rabbits.
Also this moning, despite there being 10 acres of field peas (forage peas) no more than 150 yds away, a flock of pigeons decided my 5 rows of pea tips tasted better and were hell bent on eating the lot - anyone want some pigeon pie ?

Even better if you add some olives, garlic, small amount of chillies and tomatoes....do not forget some wine.

T'was rabbits !!!!
Some of which my mate dispatched with his .243 rifle (a touch of overkill I thought). However, the quarry banking is alive with the critters so I am gonna get another mate out with his ferrets to do some serious number reducing and hopefully I will be able to stay on top of the problem after that

Have discovered a way of recycling rabbits - put carcasses in field for the buzzards and hey presto - pigeon problem disappears !!!!
