I planted out a courgette last week. It had a floer that developed into a small fruit within 3days. As it developed it appeared to be slug damaged so I cut it off and discovered that the inside had been eaten away by a mass of tiny maggots. Yesterday a newly planted cucumber collapsed. I have dug it up today and discovered that the lower stem and roots were riddled with the same maggots. The plants were planted about 12ft apart and purchased from suppliers 50 miles apart. I am surprised at the speed of the devastation.. The magots are off white between 3and 5mm long and look like miniature blow fly maggots. I can not find any information on them. Has anyone any idea what they may be?

Was the soil/compost they were in before you planted them out, very wet?
Whereabouts do you live? We have members from all over the world so it helps if we know a few basic bits of information about you. -
Hi. I'm in Leicestershire. The compost was not wet just moist. They spent a few days hardening off before planting out and so were together in the greenhouse at nights for about a week. We had a few very wet days just after planting.Comment
