  • Killing bamboo?

I have a great bush of bamboo outside the front of my house which I would like to kill off. It's contained in an area 8'x2' between the bay wall of the house and my drive, I would like to eradicate it completely put some weedcover fabric and then some gravel on top so I can put some pots out. I have tried cutting this back and spraying weedkiller but to no avail, today I went all out and dug out as much as I can but it's near on impossible to get all the roots and I fear it may come back again. I have heard about cutting the roots and spraying immediately spraying with strong weedkiller, which I did but there are still a fair amount buried against the wall which I couldn't get.
Is there any way to kill it completely? The last thing I want is to think I have killed it and put down weed control fabric and gravel only for it to find it's way back. I'm open to permanently damaging the soil so nothing grows if it means the bamboo won't come back as it's only a small piece of land that will be covered over with gravel anyway.

Have a look at this: Bamboo Removal and Eradication - How to get Rid of Bamboo

We have an invasive bamboo at school that comes up through the weed membrane and the slats in the seating so you get a nasty surprise when you sit down (whoever designed the kids sensory garden needs shooting: it's full of sharp & prickly plants like mahonia)

I've been digging out the horsetail from the other garden which is a few hundred yards from the bamboo and guess what... I've just found new spikes of bamboo. It really can't have travelled underneath a concrete playground for 200m could it?

I've just removed a large clump which I stupidly put against a fence and close to the house. Little shoots were coming up everywhere and started lifting the patio flags.

The main clump had sent out about 15 thick bamboo cables with rock-hard spear tips all with their own root system about every 4 inches. I lifted all the flags and snipped off all the cables, then dug the main clump out (quite shallow roots) and lumped it into a huge plastic pot.

Not sure if it's all dead, but it was quite shocking to see how it had moved under the flags in a relatively short time.

It really can't have travelled underneath a concrete playground for 200m could it?
I think I read recently that the spreading rhizome will only go as far as the tallest bamboo in the clump, which was about right for mine. Not sure if it's true though.

Thanks for the replies. Would sterilising the soil also kill it? I'm not planning to grow anything there again so don't mind if the soil gets ruined.

Repeated applications of glyphosate will eventually kill it.

Best way to kill it would be to inject it with glyphosate. this will kill the root. our local supplier has a product called slingshot Slingshot

Ramsay, do you actually grow anything? All your posts seem to be about using weedkiller.
