Can anyone help me ID this fly??
(sorry -no pictures!)

It's about 1cm long, black and trails it's legs at an angle whilst flying.
It has long, fine almost beige coloured antennae.
There were about 50 of them flying around the cherry and plum trees, and landing on the leaves.
I know we have some greenfly on the leaves and are waiting for the petals to drop to spray them.
If they are goodies, then I clearly don't want to harm them.
They are definately not hoverflies- cos we also get those.
Just interested really.
I've googled all sorts of things , but not come up with any photos which look the same.

Sounds like St Mark's fly - it is supposed to play an important role in fruit tree pollination so look after them! They are characterised by the dangly legs and the name comes from the fact that they are active around St Mark's Day - April 25th. If you google this name you should find something - it's difficult to google blind!
