    Different ants in one bed.

    Hi,
    I was patching up a raised bed the other day when I found a black ant nest. So I thought s#d this I can't remember if these bite or not. So I moved to the other end of the bed where I found some orange looking sort of ants nest. I thought s#d that and went to do another job.
    So I wondering are the ants going to cause me any major problems with having the two nests?
    Don't really want to put any chemicals down to get rid of them. So would it be a case of keep disturbing them till the get the subtle hint to move?

    Squirt lemon juice on the nests and that will give them tho hint to move elsewhere.

      Ants will nest in nice dry places (I get them under the paving slabs & stepping stones). If they're in a bed, water that bed well and keep watering it

      Black ants can't bite, but red ants will sting ~ having said that, I've never been stung by them ever, and we have a lot of red ants at home and lotty

        We have ants all over the plot and there isn't enough water in the world to get rid. Well that may be a slight exaggeration but you get my meaning. I've been stung by the red ones on numerous occasions. They crawl down my glove and them blame it on me that they've gone and got lost. I just have to be careful and plant round them, when I unearth them. Haven't been got this year yet - touch wood.

        ETA - I wouldn't let them put you off doing your stuff, the sting hurts a bit but it's not that bad.

          We have a red ant nest in one of our beds and I'm desperate to get rid of them organically - they stung me loads last year and I don't think I can take the itching and swelling again!
          I'll try the lemon juice trick I think!

            I'm allergic to the stings so red ants are actively discouraged here. I find they don't like their homes flooded, so I keep beds damp where I can. Or damage the nest with a fork and wait till they have moved on.

            Other than being resident aphid farmers I don't find they do any damage to the veg - just to me!
