  • Deceased rat, no head

An ex-rat, splayed out on the back lawn. But without its head. Over the years we have found a couple of dead sqirrells, the remains of the odd bird but usually just the feathers and even a dead fox in the next door neighbours garden but a headless rat? It wasn't a particularly big rat - we have a brook running alongside our house so lots of rats there but touch wood we have never been invaded. Would the average moggy bite off the head of a rat? And the carrion crows roundabout didn't seem interested in it. Curiouser and curiouser.

I have had in total 9 pet cats (2 still alive) and I can verify that a headless rat is nothing new on my back door step or even under the dining table. Mice too. Just last week in fact.

That was a bat, not a rat and for the record...it's Ozzy with a 'y'

On the subject of strange creature anomalies ...today I found a crispy sun-dried frog.
Tried and Tested...but the results are inconclusive

We had a dried rat under the shed when we took it down. Looked to be a similiar age to "Ginger" in the British Museum.

Makes me wonder if Ozzy the moggy took the head home as a present...

What's worse. finding the body without the head, or the head without the body? I seem to find quite a few mouse heads staring up at me

No it's definitely finding the gall bladder or whatever the shiny inard is that they don't like eating. Precision extraction. Pretty impressive for just teeth.

Haha, yes we have the innards here. The cat will bring in a mouse, or a rabbit. Dispose of the body usually, then lays out the stomach, the gut, and sometimes another internal organ, and maybe the head as well. It's rather like a grisly anatomy lesson for the first person up round here.
