  • Cucumbers doomed?

I've just noticed that my cucumbers in the greenhouse are getting slightly mottled on the lower leaves and there's some very fine web with tiny insects on. I think I remember this from a previous year when the plants completely succumbed to this and became dried out.
At the moment they are doing well producing lots of cucumbers.
What can I safely use to save them? I don't normally use any chemicals in the garden as I'm trying to encourage the frog population.
    Thanks for reading.

I use home made garlic spray for absolutely everything and it seems to work well. It doesn't eradicate the pest completely but usually keep the damage to a minimum.
I crush a couple of garlic clove and let it stand all night covered with mineral oil (baby oil), drain and add almost a liter of water plus a teaspoon of washing up liquid. Ready-Spray!!

Careful not to spray in full sun because with the oil content the sun will burn the leaves. Also do a test before you spray the whole plant just to be on the safe side.

You have Red Spider Mite ! It loves the hot dry conditions and will run riot in your greenhouse in no time at all. There is a biological control available if you do not want to spray. The RHS have more info, so here's the link
