Looks like some small caterpillar/grub thing on the bottom pic,no idea what though, they have made a mess off them, have a look on undersides of the leaves,to see if any eggs, how are the beans themselves,

PESTS AND DISEASES in Peas and Beans - Beans and...Leaves ...
    www.beansandherbs.co.uk/pestdiseases.htm
Also dark specks or patches on foliage of French and Runner beans enlarge to become dark brown ... Hoeing also exposes the pests to birds which eat them.

      Thanks L/D

I have been up the garden and just in time to see a lot of sparrows take off from the runner beans and lot of flowers on the ground: mad: I have covered the best I can
they have never done that before.

Maybe the sparrows are after the grub things, especially if they have young.

Just about to say that looks like bird carp! I think it may be bird damage too...ive had a serious bird problem this year.

I have a fool proof bird damage prevention method. 1st get really really busy. 2nd don't do anywhere near enough weeding. 3rd let all your weeds go to seed and let the birds eat them 4th forget to net your blackcurrants 5th have 2 young children who find lots of slugs and snails & leave them on garden furniture for birds to eat!

Scarlet we do have more birds in the garden this year ,may be because of the mild winter we had.

Looks like bird damage to me....

My leafy greens patch looked like that for a couple of days.
On day three they were stripped back to bare stalks by 9am

We've noticed sparrows on the French climbers, pecking the flowers off.
